I don't know Venezuela just as a tour operator – I live here!
Since 2018, Caracas has been my home, and I have explored the country with a depth that is only possible when you don’t come as a tourist, but as someone who belongs. Years of on-site experience, a strong network of reliable partners, and the passion to make this unique country tangible – that is my promise to you and your guests.
” live here – I know not only the hotspots, but also the quiet places. This deep understanding defines my work. Over the years, my network has grown steadily: I know who’s reliable and who isn’t. And when your guests are traveling, this applies: I don’t just accompany them – I personally stand for their safety and well-being.
Whether Angel Falls, the Andes, the Caribbean, or the Orinoco Delta – I organize your program from A to Z, tailor-made and with the personal touch that only a true local can offer. You won’t find mass tourism with me – every trip is as individual as your clients.

Jörg's lifelong passion for discovering foreign cultures led to the founding of Criollo Travel
Ciollo Travel is a small, emerging specialist for travel to Venezuela. His first self-organized trip to Hungary in 1981 awakened in him the desire to understand the world beyond the familiar.
This drive led him through the global south for decades, but it was Latin America that captured his heart. After his first backpacking trip through Venezuela in 1988, he nurtured a decades-long fascination for the country’s extraordinary diversity. In 2018, he moved to Caracas with his wife, where he lived for six years. He immersed himself so deeply in the local culture and explored the country so thoroughly that his Venezuelan friends eventually asked him for travel tips.
When he had to return to Germany in 2024, Jörg founded Criollo Travel with a clear mission: to bring others closer to the “real Venezuela.” With Criollo Travel, he wants to let travelers discover the country’s hidden wonders – from the Caribbean to the Andes – through the eyes of the locals, making its true essence and rich culture tangible.

Your Questions About Traveling to Venezuela
Venezuela is a paradise for nature lovers: hiking, birdwatching (top 10 country), swimming, snorkeling, diving, rafting, climbing, caving, and fly fishing. The biodiversity is overwhelming.
The world’s highest waterfall (Salto Ángel), trekking up Mount Roraima (a tabletop mountain), the Los Roques archipelago (voted a top 10 beach destination worldwide by Forbes), the world’s highest cable car (Mucumbarí, reaching nearly 5,000 meters), and the unique Catatumbo lightning phenomenon.
Venezuela can be visited year-round. The weather is generally good, never too hot or too cold.
In private vehicles (jeep, van, or small bus). For longer distances, we use domestic flights, which are often only slightly more expensive.
Crime has significantly decreased since 2020. Thanks to our close network of local partners, we are constantly informed about the situation and can guarantee safe travel.
EU citizens only need a passport valid for at least six months. No vaccinations are mandatory (except when entering from a yellow fever zone). We recommend a yellow fever vaccination and travel health insurance with repatriation coverage. Malaria prophylaxis is generally not necessary.
Foreign credit cards usually do not work, and it is not possible to withdraw cash from ATMs without a Venezuelan bank card. Travelers must therefore bring sufficient cash (USD or Euros) in small denominations.
The main international airports are Caracas (CCS) and, starting in 2026, Maracaibo (MAR) again. Good connecting flights are available via Panama, Bogotá, Madrid, Lisbon, and Istanbul.
Absolutely! Safari adventures in the Los Llanos plains, treks to the tabletop mountains, exploring the cloud forests with fascinating hummingbird stations, and beach stays in Los Roques are all excellent options for families.
Spanish is the official language. English is not widely spoken, so basic Spanish skills are very helpful. Our guides are, of course, multilingual and happy to assist.
Venezuelans are very warm and sociable. It is common to shake hands upon greeting and leaving, or to greet acquaintances with a kiss on the cheek.
